The Punyabrata Das Library of ICAR–National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources serves as the central knowledge and information hub of the institute. It plays a vital role in supporting research, education, innovation, and scientific communication by providing timely access to high-quality information resources in fisheries and allied sciences.
The library maintains a rich collection of printed and electronic resources covering fish genetic resources, biodiversity, conservation biology, fish taxonomy, aquaculture, fish health, molecular biology, biotechnology, ecology, environmental sciences, bioinformatics, climate change, and other related disciplines. It continuously strengthens its collection to meet the information requirements of scientists, research scholars, technical staff, students, and other stakeholders.
The library provides information support not only to users at the institute's headquarters but also to its centre and research unit. In addition, its services are extended to students, academicians, researchers, professionals, State Fisheries Departments, ICAR institutes, universities, colleges, and other organizations engaged in fisheries and aquatic sciences.
The Library serves as the nodal unit for coordinating the publication, printing, and dissemination of ICAR-NBFGR publications, ensuring their timely production and wider accessibility to the scientific community and other stakeholders. It manages the stock, inventory, sale, and distribution of all institutional publications, ensuring their systematic maintenance and availability to users. The Library also facilitates the allotment of International Standard Book Numbers (ISBN) for books and International Standard Serial Numbers (ISSN) serial publications.
Additionally, several journals were acquired through complimentary subscriptions and exchange basis.
