The Agriculture Knowledge Management Unit (AKMU) serves as the institute’s centralized IT hub, managing core services such as internet, email, databases, and the Local Area Network (LAN). It ensures efficient data and resource sharing among staff, scientists, researchers, and students through Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), which create separate broadcast domains within a single physical network. AKMU oversees the setup and maintenance of networked computers, peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.), servers (web, mail, database, UTM), and Wi-Fi connectivity, enabling seamless information exchange across the institute. It also ensures robust data and network security through firewalls, antivirus servers, spam and virus filters, and client-side antivirus software to safeguard against potential threats. Additionally, it oversees the setup and maintenance of Campus Wide CCTV Surveillance system for security of the campus and to prevent unauthorised intruders in the campus. The unit is the central hub for research scholars, students and other staff members for using the computer, peripheral devices, internet and emails. The Academic Knowledge Management Unit (AKMU) at ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, supports the Institute’s academic, research and knowledge-sharing activities. It facilitates the systematic management, dissemination and accessibility of academic and institutional information for students, faculty, scientists, researchers and other stakeholders. AKMU also promotes digital resources, efficient information management and coordination among academic and administrative units, contributing to a transparent and technology-enabled academic environment.

The major objective of AKMU is to ensure effective management, organization and dissemination of academic and institutional knowledge. The key objectives are:
